Chapter 1
I thought the first chapter was very interesting in how they went about punishing a prostitute. Stoning someone to death is never really heard of anymore. If anything you would think that they would just send her to jail. This just shows how different other countries are from America. Prostitution is a common thing in some cities in the United States. However with their religion, that would be a sin against Allah. I just couldn't even imagine being half burried and stoned to death. That seriosly has to be one of the worst ways to die. The whole situation sounds kind of shady though because they took her out into the middle of no where and only bums and hobos were present. It said there were crowds of people but it sounded like people who wouldn't have much say in what went on.

Yea, I think that they way they punished the prostitute is a little weird too. Like why would you want to go and stone someone you do not even know for a reason that does not even concern you. Its also weird that stoning is the method of punishment that they chose because like you said its not very common.
It kind of makes me think of the Lottery a little. I don't even know if she was a prostitute, I think I remember somebody calling her an adulteress, so who knows? But the punishment was way harsh.
